Guild Killers
24 July, 2009  |  No comments  |  World of Warcraft

This post was going to be about Kireifu’s guild disbanding due to being unable to take down Yogg, after I believe I was told, 1 month of trying. Why don’t I know for sure? I was never really a part of Wraith. I was in the guild and I spoke a few times here and there in chat, but it wasn’t my home. I didn’t raid with them, but part of me did plan to casually. They were a group of nice people though. If I did need help with an instance or a quest I would receive it. Axwilltravel helped me a bit. Enough to get a mention anyway XD.

Kosycus didn’t take the breakup as well as I did. He raided with them, chatted with them often, and really enjoyed their company. He joined up with the people that left and is scheduled to raid with them tonight though. ^^ So I’m happy for him. I am still in Wraith. Still logging on to a 250 toon guild and being the only one online. I miss logging on to 30+ people. I miss seeing the scrolling green text.

But yes, that was what this post was going to be about. Then I realized I wasn’t very emotionally involved in this breakup. I really didn’t have the details. I wasn’t there when it happened. I didn’t hear the speech from the GM as people /gquit. I’ve never (until now of course) have been a part of a guild/linkshell/clan/whatever that has broken up due to lack of progression. Now drama on the other hand. Many, many, many breakups with that as the cause.

This post is going to really be about a different guild killer. Cliques. I don’t think people realize how serious cliques are. Side story! When I played Final Fantasy XI Online my linkshell (guild), KukaiFoundation, and another linkshell, Evil, decided to merge to form a brand new group for endgame named Illuminati. I was uneasy about the idea, but of course followed my good friends. In FFXI you were not bound to 1 linkshell. You could be in as many as you wanted. While in Illuminati most of our core endgame raiders that were previously in Evil would secretly go to their other linkshell and do endgame bosses without sharing with Illuminati members. I don’t necessarily mean sharing as in loot, but recording a Time of Death was very important in FFXI.

The drama that unfolded because they separated themselves from the group began breaking the linkshell a part. For starters why would the rogue group want to do end game bosses with the core when they could do it privately and keep the loot for themselves. On the other hand the core group became jealous/angry for not being included and began to not trust the rogue group.

This I think happens a lot with mergers. People tend to stick with their “own kind.” If they can’t branch out and make friends with others the guild will surely be the one to hurt.

Having a group within a group that isn’t open to everyone leads to dangerous grounds. Even if the inner group has good intentions. Others just won’t see it that way. It’s even worse if the inner group is arrogant enough to let people know only the 1337 of the 1337 can join.

I’ve seen more guilds/linkshells/clans end over clique drama than over anything else.

PvPriest, Part 2: Arena Duos and Your Role

As a shadow priest, you have a decent amount of control, you're reasonably hardy, but you do not have many methods of saving your partner in a pinch. That means, in a team with two damage classes, you want to get either a frost mage or a rogue for a partner. Read more

Shadow Dueling ~ A Guest Post by Calsong

Protective, shimmering radiance fills the air as you crouch, watching the spot the dagger-wielding rogue disappeared. A Fear Ward is active, but your feet are numb. You pace, reviewing your plan of action as you renew your shield. Suddenly the rogue is upon you, stunning you in place and crippling your movements. This was expected, you reassure yourself whilst spamming the Psychic Scream button. Read more

The Guild – Rules

Last installation I talked about how important rules and recruitment were (and coincidentally, how similar they were to hooking up a girl). This week I'm going to cover all the areas where your dirty little rules should expand to. I'm going to start with quoting three bullets from last week, explain them even more vigorously, and then finally explore the areas where there should be rules. Read more
