While I have plans on raiding at some point in time I do plan on raiding casually. By casually I don’t mean that RL obligations will keep me from the 4 nights a week of a hardcore raiding guild, even though they will. I mean that when I log on and I don’t feel like raiding that night, gdi I’m not going to. I’m not going to be guilted into it. I certainly am not going to be yelled at either.
Now I completely understand by taking this side of casually raiding that I will not be at the top of the list on dkp. I understand fully that most gear that I get will be because the hardcore raiders either have it already or they have something better. I’m ok with that. I’ve never been much of a loot whore. That’s one thing that I’m quite proud of actually.

Now what brought up that little rage fit? Well my boss decided to be a real bi…rat today. Getting hours at my work is a real popularity contest. While most of the managers give me 5 shifts a week there’s one manager, the previously mentioned brat, that doesn’t. She cuts my hours down to 2-3 shifts a week. For someone that has bills to pay that really sucks. This week she gave me 4 shifts. The most I’ve ever gotten from her. So I planned my week out. For once not having to call other employees for shifts. Today when I came in for the night shift she asked if I wanted to work an extra morning shift tomorrow. I already made plans and I told her so. She responded with “You always complain you want hours and now you’re saying no.” … I want SCHEDULED hours. Not drop of a hat hours that you see fit to give me no respectful warning on as well as trying to make me feel like shit so I take the shift.
What the hell does that have to do with WoW?
It reminded me of when me and Kos were instancing together. He was attempting to help me get gear so I can raid with him. We unfortunately had a crappy group that forced him to run late to a raid. While we were finishing up an officer saw fit to yell in guild chat “Why are there people with RAIDER as their rank not in this raid yet???” (Yep, the multiple question marks.. the mark of a nubcake.)
While they weren’t talking directly to Kos, but to quite a few members it still was a “make you feel like shit so you take the shift” bull. Just because I want to raid doesn’t mean I want to all the time. You know there are times when I just want to spend time with Kos, work on achievements, or work on other things. I plan on doing all of that without feeling guilty or being yelled at. And with that attitude I could never be a hardcore raider. I accept that.
Do you feel being in a raiding guild you are obligated to drop everything for a raid?
