Heroes of Newerth Noobie Guide 3 ~ Advanced Laning

13 November 2009 View Comments

If you haven’t yet check out my Basic Laning Guide.

So what is advanced laning? Advanced laning is how you lane mid-late game. By mid game your team will probably be ganking, farming the jungle, and team pushing towers. You or the other team will have lost a few towers by now and you are no longer taking lanes by twos or by yourself anymore. Now is the time for advanced laning.

The Group Push

If you  see 3 or more of your teammates in a lane pushing a tower you should join them. More than likely the other team will gather more than 3 people to counter your teammates so you need to be there to support a team fight and help take the tower/rax that they are pushing for. Also you being there does in fact make the other team think twice about going in. If they see 3 teammates, then see you they may think the other is on their way and might either dance by their tower or back off completely. Either way you need to be with your team.

~The only case that this may not be true is if you are a carry. Sometimes your farming takes precedence over taking down an outer tower. However it’s never a good idea to continue farming when your team actually needs you.~

Don’t Overstay Your Welcome

If you need to push a lane by yourself stay for only 1 or 2 waves. This may seem short, but it’s for reason. If you’re by yourself and the other team is MIA they are coming to gank you. Trust me. I would gank you. If you do decide to push a lane always carry a TP (teleport) with you so you can get out ASAP. You don’t have to go back to the well and twiddle your thumbs. Switch lanes or go jungling if you need gold. Never be by yourself for too long if you don’t have a way out.

When In Doubt, Back

Ever been on a team without a leader? You know, when all 5 of your teammates are in a lane and the last tower is 5 feet away, but NO ONE moves. They just dance around backing and then moving toward the tower only to back again. No one knows what they are doing because no one is doing anything to give you a sign to go in or to back. If no one is willing to initiate it just lets the other team build up their forces to seriously own you. So when in doubt back. Call it out and tell your team to back. If they don’t want to back at least now they’ll actually initiate.

Defend The Tower By Denying

The other team is pushing your tower and you are the only one close enough to defend. (Sucks your team doesn’t have TPs huh?) Don’t go into the fight 5vs1. It’s a death sentence. Even if you take out 1 you’re left with a timer and they still get the tower. So you hang out in a safe distance and wait for them to take down the tower close enough for you to deny it. Then, of course, you run like hell because the angry mob will be going for you next. Timing this can be difficult. Think of how long it took you to deny creeps perfectly.

Advanced laning isn’t actually about laning at all. It’s about how you control your lanes during the chaos of team pushes, team fights, farming, and defending.
