So, what makes a warlock so imba? Is it skill? Gear? Luck? The OP-ness of the class?
Most players that don’t play the class themselves consider the warlock class to be unfair, over-powered, un-balanced…. But, is that really true? Being a warlock player myself I would by all means disagree. So, to shed some light on the topic let’s take a quick look on the most frequently used PvP specs, shall we?
Before discussing about the specs, a key aspect of the warlock everyday PvP spec needs some attention. The most important talent of the warlock class is Soul Link. This buffs your survivability and it’s a mandatory talent for every PvP spec. Sadly, this makes you pretty pet dependant. The 20% damage reduction, is … Huge. Without this there is no chance for you to ever ,,go pro” when it comes to warlock PvP. So, keep an eye on your pets my fellow warlock players cause if it dies…. You will most likely join it soon. /Mourn
Well this is the spec that everyone whines about… Let’s discuss the ,,up’s” and ,,downs” of playing the fire spec. What’s good about this spec? Huge burst of damage and when I say huge, man I mean HUGE with double the font size and bold on top of that.
Wall of text inc, bare with me wow lovers …
Let me explain: You’re a 23k health Lazor chicken (also known as Boomkin, Chicken of doom, CluckCluckBoom, or simply Owl). So, you’re flying around, farming your daily flowers and suddenly you stumble upon a warlock with around 24% of its overall health left. You decide you should gank this poor soul and so it begins. Jumping out of your Crow form with your mighty Moonfire spam surely looks frightening but no, not for this warlock. In a moment of panic he unleashes a mighty Death Coil upon you followed by wisely put together crowd control + damage combo and in the following second you find yourself spam clicking the ,,release spirit” button. As you browse through your combat log trying to find the name of the rogue that ambushed you, you notice that there was no such thing involved, but you do see that the warlock basically 3 shotted your feathery ass. Full of anger and powered by the overwhelming nerd rage within you, you head bash an alt + tab combination, google random warlock forums and start flaming everything and everyone, passing around random insults regarding the ,,Overpowerness” of the warlock class.
Now let’s generalize. It’s the people that fail at playing their class that flame and call other classes Op.
Well, Mr. QQ person, I think you did a mistake there in that duel, don’t you think? I think you used vanish too early. ,,NO!!!! WARLOCKS ARE DAMN OP MAN, I HATE THEM I HATE EM! NERF LOCKS!!!!”.
Oh, and we also have the more peaceful QQ’ers…. You know the type … ,,Man I lagged …. Bad isp”. Come on, you know them… We all have one inside us. <3.
Now getting back to the main topic, burst of damage is one of the most important assets of the destruction spec also the Nether Protection buff provides a huge survivability against caster classes. All good so far, but what does the destruction spec lack? Survivability … You are quite vulnerable to melee classes and even caster classes could easily render you useless, since Nether Protection can be dispelled, purged and even spell stolen.
My favorite spec <3 , dot and run away like a little girl matches my style … Maybe that came out wrong … Anyways, this spec provides a good damage output , while having a decent survivability and a huge amount of maneuverability. All this comes however at a pricy cost … the lack of damage burst…
This spec is definitively epic…epic…epic. It has huge survivability, huge maneuverability, huge damage output, it has burst, static damage everything you could possibly ask for. Three words: pure epic ownage. But, yeah… there is a but. It’s a cooldown dependent spec… yes ,,I WIN” button exists. Every 3 minutes you pawn, but you can /afk between cooldowns cause the only weapon worth mentioning that you have besides Metamorphosis is an angry steroid fed pet, yes, yes it’s the Felguard <3.
In my opinion: Affli > Destro > Demo. It’s just a personal preference though. All three specs are PvP viable. It’s just a matter of personal play style.
So what makes the warlock class so imba? Simple. The player behind the keyboard. Just like every other class. Getting owned by warlocks? Reroll one, learn it and find out how to render it useless. Only after you’ve discovered the weaknesses of every class in the game will you be ready for hardcore PvP.
My point?
No class is Op.
Or maybe just mages … but that’s another topic ^_^
Peace.
